3-D Drawings: Sara Jo World

(sorry for the late afternoon post... I had a problem with my server this morning. All is well now.)

I have no idea were I came across this work... the blog world is quite a sticky web. Anyways, I took in a short breath when I scrolled down the page of the Sarajoworld Blog. I thought the illustration,"Women with Nest" was inspiring until I scrolled down further to see the images come to life in 3-D cutouts. Of course my mind got spinning and I thought, 'Wow, wouldn't these be great animated in a short film or cartoon?!' I can just picture the "pointing people", opening and closing their drawers and climbing down to walk out of the forest.

If you love the "Women with Nest" print as much as I do, you can purchase one for yourself right here.

Faux Deer Heads: Jennifer Khoshbin

Talented jewelry designer, Tay, of Honey and Milk introduced me to this multi - dimensional artist Jennifer Khoshbin work via her blog Found Object. Granted the trend of faux deer mounted trophy heads is not new, but Jennifer’s application of the material to the surface of the face is. Her treatment of the surface through wallpaper and vintage fabric is a welcome fresh layering of content and aesthetics.

Khoshbin's other body of work is sophisticated and thoughtful, effortlessly combining 2-D and 3-D art forms. I just really love the whimsical, bright color palette of the deer heads for any age kids room wall decor. Make for the beginnings of an edgy nursery!

Family Tea Party: Installation Art

This piece reminds me of some of my past work. Brilliantly mastered from a German artist named Jurgen Bey, the white membrane covering the seating transforms the chairs function into simplified shape and outline. I enjoy the juxtaposition of the architectural drawings on the back wall.

Garment Houses: Art Installation

I came across this collection of images from Japanese collaborators Yoshikazu Yamaqata and Kentaro Tamai about 6 months ago and never got around to blogging about them. The cross discipline is so inspiring; sculpture, performance, installation and the "garment" quality is captivating. I love the conceptual ideas that come to mind....our bodies as our homes, our houses as our exterior shell. I respect work that is beautiful and makes me think in the same moment.

Paper Cutouts: Rob Ryan

I stumbled across this English born self taught artist, Rob Ryan last night and from that point forward the image of his delicate, skillfully crafted paper cutout will forever be pressed in my brain. Oh, if only I could snatch up just one tiny print I would be happy. There is something very raw and real about the cuts he makes; delicate, confident and that much more interesting that this thoughtful work comes from the hand of a man.

Please take a minute to look at the complete body of Rob Ryan's work.... you will not be disappointed.
